Who Else Wants an Application that Helps
Plan and Manage
Multiple
DX, Contest, and Special Event Operations and Streams Logs
LIVE On The Web?
That's right! With DXtream you can plan and manage multiple DX, Contest,
and Special Event operations from one web site running on your
Windows XT or above laptop or home computer. And, if you want,
you may stream your logs LIVE on the internet.
Who is WK5DX and Why did he create DXtream?
Hi, I'm Tom King, WK5DX. I've been a web applications
programmer for over 20 years and a ham since 1992. I love
contesting and working DX and Special events. I wanted to combine
my passion for programming and radio sport into an application
that could benefit other hams that love radio sport as much as I do.
Since my first ARRL Field Day I've been bitten by contesting bug.
I just can't seem to shake it. I started using N1MM Logger when
it first came out and continue to use it as my log program.
DXtream is built on top of the Yii Framework which is a MVC
framework and allows for better security using Role-based Authentication
and database management of your operation logs.
As a programmer I've worked with both small and large teams,
but all teams have one thing in common - project management. A
project leader and team members that work together to achieve
a goal need some form of communication to plan and answer issues
that come up in the planning stages. Just about every DXpedition
operation, contest operation and Special event operation has a
need for this type of application.
Some teams use several different methods or programs to
achieve this operation planning, but I wanted to provide one place
where all team members could go to work on the operation and where
other hams could get information about the operation and even be
able to view and search the log as the operation was in progress.
That's why I developed DXtream!
Use DXtream as a Club Website
Use DXtream as your club website. There are pages that
you may edit to inform others about your club, the operation team,
and the club membership.
Many of the web hosting companies have windows platforms that
also support PHP and MySql, so you could have DXtream hosted
remotely, but many will host this application on a home
computer or laptop and when the operation is in progress, use a DDNS
service to put the application on the internet.
Log Streaming, Searching and Reports
On the home page the last QSO for each band is shown and may
be refreshed by clicking on the refresh button below the table.
The refresh is done via AJAX so there is no page flicker!
Anonymous users (Hams) may search the log for their callsign
and get ten different log reports. Eight of these reports have
charts that give more in-depth information.
- QSOs by Zone
- QSOs by Continent
- QSOs by DXCC Entity
- QSOs by Mode
- QSOs by Band
- QSOs by Hour
- QSOs by Mode/Band
- QSOs by Continent/Mode
- Last 5 minutes
- Unique Callsigns
An authorized user who logs into the site has 7 additional
reports that they my access that give information about
operator statistics. Six of these reports have charts.
- QSOs by Callsign
- QSOs by Operator
- QSOs by Operator/Mode
- QSOs by Operator/Band
- QSOs by Hour/Operator
- QSOs by Hour/Mode
- QSOs by Hour/Band
Operation Planning and Management
It takes a lot of planning to get an operation like a
DXpedition to a rare DXCC entity pulled off. In fact it can take
years of hard work and planning before getting to the destination.
Many issues come up that can slow down the operation, so a
planning tool is a great way to keep abreast of all the issues
that come up.
DXtream was built to handle the planning and management of
all your operations. From a major DXpedition to Field Day,
DXtream can help you and your operation team mange the operation
and the many issues that arise.
DXtream provides a site where all the operators can
communicate with each other during the planning of the operation.
Since DXtream allows for multiple operation planning, operators
are assigned to operations using role bases authentication (RBAC).
This gives you control over who may do what within an operation.
More about RABC a little later.
Operation Issues
Issues come in four flavors:
- Logistics
- Equipment
- Tasks
- Needs
Operators may create an issue for an operation if they are
assigned to that operation.
Operators may also post comments to any issue. This is one
of the ways operators communicate with each other.
Operators may also subscribe to an RSS feed of the comments
and stay informed that way as well.
System Administration
The Administrator has an Administration Console from which
he/she may add log databases, send system messages to
authorized users, and manage users.
Administrators and Operation Owners may manage Operations and
Issues and add users to operations in an appropriate role.
Supported Logging Software
DXtream 1.0.0 supports N1MM Logger and Ham Radio Deluxe.
I do plan on having support for other Loggers in the future:
- CQX,
- Win-Test,
- other logging programs.
System Requirements
- Windows OS (XT, 2000, Win7)
- PHP 5.3
- an Apache2 web server and
- a MySql database
I recommend downloading and installing
XAMPP from
Apachefriends
for your Windows XAMP stack
- And if you are going to stream live logs from your local
machine you will need a DDNS like tzo, no-ip, or dyn.
Skins
DXtream comes with several 'skins' one of which should match
your club or operation color scheme.
- DXtream monochromatic
- Tropical Fruit
- Antarctica
- Pebbles in the Sand
- African Sunset
- JambaJuice
- SatinFloss
- SilkRoad
- TropicalWaters
Custom skins may be ordered to match you operation or club.
So, what is the price of owning a copy of DXtream?
The operation management alone is worth $100 and add the N1MM
Logger log streaming to that and you have an application worth
more than $125 on the open market.
You won't pay $125 Not even $50!
I have decided to release DXtream version 1.0.0 for the
one-time low introductory price of $27 from now until midnight December 31, 2011.
Just $27!
That's a 76% discount for being one
of the first to download DXtream.
